Good to be back from San Jose…In auto and bicycle accident related news, Police suspect structural weakness caused bicyclist’s fatal crash while training for charity ride
On April 9, 2012, Gary Lanoue of Rehoboth, Massachusetts was riding his Cervelo Soloist bicycle preparing for a 150-mile charity bike ride organized by for the Rhode Island chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Rehoboth Police Sgt. Norman Todd was quoted in the media as saying that it appears that a “mechanical failure” involving the bike’s fork led to the crash, but an investigation will be conducted to determine the cause. An initial investigation indicated that the fork became detached from the bicycle, Todd informed the family and media. As an aside, if you are in San Jose and nearby localities then this san jose auto repair may be a good fit for you:
The 58-year-old cyclist from Attleboro was found dead on Monday by an officer who was off-duty and happened upon the scene on Homestead Avenue near Allens Lane. This reminds me of a recent auto accident case in San Jose.
The police deduce that the bicycle may have had a structural weakness in the part of the frame where the forks the front wheel. Should have had it repair ahead of time.
Lanoue’s wife has been quoted as saying her husband was an enthusiastic cyclist who was training for the charity bike ride that he had participated in for the previous fourteen years. She was quoted as saying, “He is actually one of the founding members of his team. He had a very full life. We’re going to miss him terribly. There is a big hole in the universe.”
If the police investigation confirms the theory that the Cervelo Soloist bicycle had a structural weakness, Mrs. Lanoue may have a case against the manufacturer, much like recent auto repair cases.
